Yesterday, we headed over to Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios to check out their Flurry of Fun Holiday Celebration. I think everyone else had the same idea, because the park was PACKED! We still had a wonderful time. Here are some of the highlights:
Sunset Seasons Greetings
Sunset Boulevard has been transformed into a winter wonderland! There’s falling “snow” and twinkling lights to enjoy. The normally ominous-looking Hollywood Tower Hotel (Tower of Terror attraction) now has projections on it that turn it into a gingerbread house or a festive snowy scene! Billboards along the street come alive with videos of some fun Disney characters, like Olaf and Swedish Chef.
Holiday-themed desserts can be found all over the park, but we stopped into Rosie’s All-American Cafe at the Sunset Ranch Market for a Prep and Landing-themed gingerbread cupcake. It was amazing! The cupcake can also be found at ABC Commissary, Catalina Eddie’s, Sweet Spells, and The Trolley Car Cafe.
Jolly Old Saint Nick is appearing inside the Once Upon A Time shop through December 24, 2017. After he returns to the North Pole, Santa Goofy takes over through December 31, 2017.
The decorations in the Echo Lake area have been pumped up from years past. Hollywood Studios’ Christmas Tree is here now. Festive garlands and Christmas tree-topped umbrellas dot the area, and Dinosaur Gertie is wearing her Santa hat!
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
This nighttime holiday spectacular takes place in the Animation Courtyard, which is the area around Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The show features the stars of Prep and Landing on a quest to get Santa Claus back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve. There’s Christmas music, fireworks, special effects, and state-of-the-art projections that all combine to make a dazzling, entertaining show. The best view is in the center and slightly back, but you have to arrive at least 20 minutes early for that. Even if you squeeze in at the last minute, the view is still really good!
Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular
Okay, I know this is not Christmas-related, but no self-respecting geek blog could go without mentioning it! Last night was the first performance of the nighttime show Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular after a long break, and the show has been updated to coincide with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
This show is a tribute to all things Star Wars, but even non-Star Wars fans will enjoy it! It features projections on Grauman’s Chinese Theatre of various characters and scenes from the movies, along with clips of dialogue and musical selections from John Williams’ superb scores. There are lasers and fireworks and flame throwers, too! It really is a lot of fun!
Through December 31, 2017, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will be performed each night. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! will happen earlier in the evening, and the Star Wars show will be the finale of each evening. The viewing area is in the Animation Courtyard and the best view of the show is in the center and slightly back.
